French Chin, WA, July 2013
The French Chin is a good beginner's scramble in the Cascades. It's fairly unexposed, and is mostly class 2 with some class 3 moves. I took a group of city-dwellers up there to introduce them to a little of what the cascades have to offer. Up top there are stellar views of the central cascades up to Mt. Stewart.

Starting early. You get stars, and you avoid walking in slush all day. That, and it also helps get you home before midnight if you're driving 5 hours back to Seattle after you finish your climb.
Devil's Garden, Arches National Park, UT, May 2013
Arches is known for it's narrow, winding canyons and vast arches. The Devils Garden is full of sandstone fins, arches, and canyons that wind out into the Utah desert. Though a popular trail, it isn't 100% safe, traversing a few narrow fins along the way.
