Grand Canyon National Park, 2013
The Arizona sun paints the landscape, beams stretching through the dusty desert air of the Grand Canyon. The canyon itself is nearly a mile deep, and stretches through northern Arizona's western half. The canyon was formed by the colorado river, and is a popular location of people looking for adventure and beauty.
Lava Beds National Monument, California, 2013
Located in the relatively remote NE corner of California, Lava Beds boasts a landscape of cinder-cones and high desert. The entire park is dotted with lava tubes, formed during the area's active volcanic past. Stars in this photo swirl above in the dark night sky, a park visitor walks past with a flashlight, and lights from distant farms punctuate the horizon.
Mt. Rainier and the Milky Way, Washington, June 2010
Mt. Rainier is Washington's tallest peak, and is one of the largest mountains in the world due to its prominence. This massive volcano is a popular spot for Mountaineers and every-day tourists. Here the Milky Way stretches across a clear, calm sky, the lights from the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area illuminating the scene from behind Rainier.
Eastern Sierras near Lone Pine, California, 2013
Just north of Lone Pine a storm lifts just enough to reveal a mountain and its ridge-lines in the distance. The Eastern Sierras are among the tallest mountains in the country, rising dramatically from the valley floor (aprox 4000 feet) to above 14,000 feet. This range in particular houses the tallest peak in the contiguous 48 states, Mt. Whitney.

Armstrong Lift, Alpental WA, 2012
This photo was taken at Alpental during a storm late at night. The snow was falling so hard that you'd have fresh tracks on almost every run. Truly an amazing night. The best part? Almost no one was there.
Mt. Rainier, WA, August 2012
This was taken while walking up the Muir Snowfield in the late days of August for some summer ski turns. I followed various footpaths up the snowfield in the clouds, eventually emerging from them at about 9,000 feet. It was a quiet day, perfect for a solo mission.
Mt. Rainier, WA, August 2013
Camp Muir is a great place for an overnight trip. I took this photo while eating dinner at Muir just before sunset.
Greg Daly, Backcountry Pond Skim, WA, July 2013

Paradise Lot, Mt. Rainier, 2013
Returning from a full day in the mountains our group and a few others gather at the trailhead near the Paradise Parking Lot up on the shoulder of Mt. Rainier. Paradise is open all winter and provides for some excellent snow-shoeing and backcountry skiing.

A Night at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, 2013
The Grand Canyon is not only a great place to visit in the daytime, but a spectacular place to view the stars at night. Due to its location away from large cities the canyon provides for amazing star-gazing on a clear night.

Mt. St. Helens, WA, March, 2013
Mt. Bachelor, OR, March 2013
The top of Mt. Bachelor often gets pummeled with hurricane force winds and some insane snow, but when it opens, the broad ridges and steep bowls can make for excellent skiing.

A father and daughter walk along the edge of the ocean on the sandy beach at Ecola State park in NW Oregon.
Multnomah Falls, Oregon, 2013
Water plummets 542 feet in stage one of this popular two stage waterfall. Multnomah Falls is a must-do stop along I-84 near Portland. Though it is one of many waterfalls near Portland, if you can only see one, this is the one to see.
White Mountains, CA, 2013
Here a fresh blanket of snow covers the White Mountains in eastern California. Located to the east of Big Pine few roads wind up and over these peaks. This photo was taken along the road to the Bristlecone Pines, gnarled, ancient trees that are among the oldest living things on the planet. The oldest tree located in the forest in the White Mountains, Methuselah, is 4844 years old and still growing.
